Privacy Notice

What I collect, why, and what you can ask me to do with it.

Last updated: 19 August 2026

Who is responsible

I, Piotr Bednarski, operate bednars.me from Poland. For data I collect on this site, I am the controller. Email: piotr@bednars.me.

I do not publish a street address. If you need one to exercise a legal right, write to that email and I will handle the request.

What this notice covers

This notice covers:

  • Visiting bednars.me
  • The free email newsletter
  • Buying or managing a membership
  • Emailing me

It does not cover other websites I link to. Payments are processed by Paddle, which has its own privacy notice.

What I collect

When you browse. If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-WGDKJZ2BYL) records pages you open, approximate location from IP, device and browser type, and referral source. I also record a few on-site actions: copying text (path and length range only, not the text), clicking a post card, subscribing to the free newsletter, and starting a contact action. Search queries are not sent to analytics. Your theme choice (light or dark) is stored in your browser's local storage and does not need cookie consent.

When you join the free newsletter. Your email address. It is stored with Resend so I can send posts. This list is not the paid membership.

When you buy a membership. I receive what I need to grant access: that you paid, the plan, and the email Paddle associates with the order. Card numbers and full billing details stay with Paddle. Paddle is Merchant of Record and a separate controller for checkout data.

When you email me. Whatever you put in the message, and your address.

I do not sell personal data. I do not ask for account passwords on this site today.

Why I use it (legal bases)

  • Contract. Providing membership access and answering order questions.
  • Consent. The free newsletter, and Google Analytics (only after you accept analytics cookies).
  • Legitimate interests. Keeping the site secure and working. Analytics is not based on this ground.
  • Legal obligation. Keeping records where tax or accounting rules require it. Paddle handles most payment records.

Who else sees it

Some of these companies are outside the EEA. Where that happens, they rely on a lawful transfer tool such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses.

How long I keep it

  • Analytics is kept according to the Google Analytics retention I have configured (typically a rolling window of months, not forever).
  • Newsletter emails stay until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete them.
  • Membership and payment records are kept as long as needed for access, support, and legal bookkeeping. Paddle keeps its own copies.
  • Ordinary email correspondence is kept as long as the conversation is useful.

Your rights

If GDPR or similar law applies to you, you can ask to access, correct, delete, or export your data, object to or restrict some processing, and withdraw consent (for example, unsubscribe). You can also complain to your local data protection authority. In Poland that is the President of the Personal Data Protection Office (UODO).

To use these rights, email piotr@bednars.me. For payment data, you may also need to contact Paddle.

Cookies and similar storage

Strictly necessary storage: your theme preference in local storage. The site also needs local storage to remember whether you accepted or rejected analytics.

Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) are off until you press Accept on the cookie bar. They are never set by default. Reject leaves the site fully usable. You can change this later with Cookies in the footer.

The site does not use advertising or retargeting pixels.

Children

This site is not aimed at children under 16. I do not knowingly collect their data. If you think I have, email me and I will delete it.

Changes

I may update this notice. The date at the top will change. If a change is material, I will say so on this page.
